★★☆☆☆
In our experience, we think you will enjoy this specific tour if you are a cyclist with good bike handling skills, ability to accomplish multiple climbs of moderate grade (6-7%), the fitness to be on the bicycle for 4-5 hours a day, and the ability to ride safely with other cyclists in a line.
Black truffle pasta, porchetta, stone-baked flatbread stuffed with cheese, prosciutto, or roasted vegetables: the list of Umbrian specialties is easy to explore, served on the street or with contemporary flair at one of the restaurants we’ve chosen especially for you.
Long ago, a German bishop named Johann Defuk was traveling to Rome to meet the Pope. He loved good wine, so he sent his servant Martin ahead to find the best inns along the way. Martin was told to write “Est” (Latin for “it is” or “there is”) on the door if the wine was good, “Est! Est!!” if it was excellent, and “Est! Est!! Est!!!” if it was truly divine.
When Martin reached Montefiascone, he found wine so delicious that he marked the door with “Est! Est!! Est!!!”.
The bishop arrived, tasted the wine, and loved it so much that he never left. He spent the rest of his life enjoying that wine.Today, the local white wine is still called “Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone”, keeping this joyful legend alive.
After arriving in Borgo la Chiaracia, you’ll settle in and meet with the mechanic for your bike fit, getting your first feel for the Pinarello.
In the evening, you’ll get to know your fellow travelers and the guides who will accompany you on this incredible adventure and we’ll come together for a welcoming dinner.
Our first ride crosses two regions, Umbria and Lazio, leading us up to Orvieto with a steady climb to reach its historic hilltop center with its magnificent gothic cathedral, and then on to Civita di Bagnoregio, the spectacular “dying city” rising above the Valle dei Calanchi.
This ride circles Lake Bolsena, following quiet roads with beautiful lake views and gentle climbs toward Montefiascone. Along the way, we stop for a exquisite fish lunch right by the water, the perfect break before completing the loop back to the hotel.
The perfect stage before relaxing at the Saturnia hot springs, a journey through time, from the Etruscan roots of Sovana to the medieval fortresses of Sorano, ending with the scent of sulfur announcing your arrival in the Tuscan Maremma.
From Saturnia to the Argentario peninsula, we ride through the heart of the Maremma, surrounded by olive groves and open countryside. The route passes through Capalbio, one of southern Tuscany’s most charming hilltop villages, before descending toward the coast, where we finally see the sea for the first time.
Our final ride is an easier loop around the Argentario peninsula, a stunning corner of southern Tuscany where rolling hills meet crystal-clear waters. We pass through Porto Ercole and end the ride with a relaxing seaside lunch, the perfect way to celebrate the end of our journey.
